P
salm 77
As I began to read and meditate upon this Psalm, I noticed that my bible was marked extensively with dates in the columns. These dates represent specific moments when the Holy Spirit used this Psalm to speak directly to a particular situation in my life. The dates were in 2018, shortly after my father went home to be with the LORD, and there was a crisis in my life at the time. I recall waking night after night, seeking the face of God and wanting to hear from God. So, when the Psalmist says, “My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me. In the day of trouble, I sought the LORD.” I know that cry for my God to hear my prayer.
On December 18, 2018, I wrote, “Lord, Deliver! Please!” in the margins of my Bible. Another dated verse said, “I am so troubled that I cannot speak.” Life’s circumstances were heavy against me, and I sought the LORD for help and refuge. Today is January 17, 2025, and I can say that God delivered me from that trial. God did hear my cry. I found that amidst a trial and trying circumstances were some of the sweetest moments of experiencing God’s presence in the early morning hours.
The Psalmist says, “I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will remember Thy wonders of old. I will meditate on all Thy work And muse on Thy deeds. Thy way, O God, is holy; What god is great like our God? Thou art the God who workest wonders; Thou hast made known Thy strength among the peoples. Thou hast by Thy power redeemed Thy people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph.” I can testify seven years later that God’s words are true. He has delivered. He has done the impossible for me. He is faithful to those who love Him. “Great is the LORD and Greatly to be Praised!”
In Lamentations chapter 3, Jeremiah is devastated as he watches the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. He sees the Babylonians lay waste to the nation and God’s people. He is filled with the anguish and pain from the devastation. But then He remembers the LORD, and he writes these words, “This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. The LORD’S loving-kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassion’s never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.”
What circumstance is there that God cannot remedy? What trial is there where our LORD is not present? If God be for us? Who can be against us? He is our mighty God. He does great things for “those who love the LORD and are called according to His purpose.”
The Apostle Peter encouraged the church with these words, “And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.” Yes, LORD, to you be glory and honor now and forever more!
Thank you for your mercies!
Love it Mark. Powerful!
